  • Naturaleza muerta resucitando | 2025

    Curated by María Isabel Rueda

On October 8, 1963, Remedios Varo died of a heart attack in her home.
In her studio, two pieces were found: a sketch and a completed work. Still Life Reviving would ultimately become the pictorial elegy that accompanied her burial.

Defying gravity, a constellation of juicy, exuberant fruits orbits in cosmic ellipses, propelled by a source of light and heat—an invisible energy emanating from the flame sparked by the central candle.
A solar—or rather, fruital—system, accompanied by a few insects, twists into a spiral, giving rise to the primordial energy that levitates above the dancing table.

A pomegranate explodes, dropping its regenerative seeds in the face of a possible suspension of all life. Certain sprouts begin to take root, and the process of creation germinates: life/death/life in a cycle of rebirth that unfolds within a building absent of any human presence.
It seems that living among endings is the most sensible way to continue the “spiral” of life.
Only a small window/display case—the sole opening connecting the scene with the outside—offers the uninitiated a possible escape from such a prison.

Sixty years have passed since Varo’s death, and if we continue to revisit her work today, it is to connect it with the vivid ecological crisis that has gained particular relevance in recent decades. Ecocritical discourses linked to posthumanism or new materialisms urge us to rethink our relationship with the planet and with non-human entities.
    _____________________________________

    Curated by William Contreras Alfonso

Each line of the drawing slightly different from the previous one, each stitch in the fabric a bit tighter or looser, each snack prepared with a slight change in its seasoning, every punch thrown in the ring, gesture by gesture, the action of the hand shapes a unique experience of dialogue with our environment. The forms that the intention of our body takes are unique; we couldn't possibly replicate contexts, moods, and situations exactly as they have happened before. Therefore, we can see in the ability of manual action an infinite source of expression and potential variability, a resource now necessary to confront the avalanche of dangerous parametrized facilities of artificial thought and mass production.

    ___________________

    Curated by Carolina Cerón

A diorama creates realities, like a window to a possible, or imagined, or extinct universe. A diorama is a skylight to a world we do not know, a portal to another dimension. A cannibal artifact. A diorama is a crack. It is also a frozen instant. A diorama is a photograph. It is a landscape, it is a view. A diorama is pure science fiction because it is constructed from the scientific parable. It is a colonial device to see images. A diorama is frozen theater. It is a suspended staging. A diorama is a reminiscence of another place. A diorama is a container. A past happening somewhere. A quick glimpse. A diorama is also an exercise in control. A diorama is a speech device. It is a mouth. It is a world, a language.

    _______________________
