Biography

Ana María Montenegro's practice can be understood as a series of conceptual and poetic experiments that explore the relationships between language, memory, performativity and emotion. In these intersections, Ana María identifies formal, narrative and discursive structures that later become the fundamental material of her pieces, whether to reinterpret, adapt or contradict them. Her projects connect documentary practices and poetic gestures, and frequently incorporate video, as well as performative and site-specific elements.

Ana María Montenegro is an artist, curator and teacher. She studied art at the Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá and at the San Francisco Art Institute, USA.
