"Con miel en la boca" (With Honey in the Mouth) explores the synchronicities between bees and the forced migratory journeys of humans. Like many stories of parallel migrations, both bees and humans continue to expand their territories in order to ensure the survival of their colonies.
The initial concept for the works stems from the artist’s personal experience of growing up surrounded by bees at her elementary school, the stories of the women in her family, and their migratory journey from Colombia to the U.S.
The resulting works include bee wax sculptures created in collaboration with the eight active bee colonies located in the artist’s backyard in Santa Ana.
